NEWS | Ellerslie Event Centre Goes Green (Gorilla!)

A key focus for us at Ellerslie Event Centre is continuing to positively move forward on our sustainability journey.

With this in mind, we are excited to announce that we have partnered with recycling and waste removal services company, Green Gorilla.

Two types of Green Gorilla branded bins will now be available around our venue; one for wet waste (coffee grounds and garden waste, for example), and one for dry waste (paper, cardboard and plastic), which will be recycled and re-purposed at Green Gorilla’s Commercial Resource Recovery Plant.

Green Gorilla is a 100% kiwi-owned company that has spent a decade developing a waste management model like no other. It is the largest non-landfill, full spectrum waste services provider in Auckland.

Elaine Morgan, Green Gorilla's CEO, says “with sustainability at the heart of what we do, Green Gorilla are excited to support Ellerslie Event Centre in their commitment to manage and reduce waste to Auckland landfills.

“By running the dry general waste through our state-of-the-art waste facility in Onehunga, we can recover up to 40% of the waste that would have previously gone straight to landfill. It’s a wonderful outcome for both Ellerslie Event Centre and for Auckland.”

Craig Fenwick, our executive general manager of hospitality & events, says that “as we continue to look at new ways to reduce our environmental impact at Ellerslie Event Centre, we are proud to have partnered with Green Gorilla as a local New Zealand owned and operated company who shares our sustainability values.

“We will be encouraging our valued staff, delegates and clients to use the new bins correctly, to help us do our bit towards creating a better environment.”

Green Gorilla's two EV collection trucks are silent and have zero emissions. No fossil fuels or emissions are involved in their day-to-day operations and like all electricity at Green Gorilla, it’s 100% renewable and carboNZero certified electricity sourced from wind, hydro and solar electricity.
