Top 6 tips for a stress-free wedding day
Here at Ellerslie Event Centre, we know wedding folders, extensive checklists and events run to military precision aren’t for everyone and often can cause more stress for the less ‘organisationally-inclined’ bride...
...so, with the Bride & Groom Show here last Sunday, we thought it timely to sit down and come up with some ‘must do’ tips to ensure you’ve struck the right balance and can enjoy a stress-free wedding experience!
6 top tips for a stress-free wedding day
1. Set a wedding budget
Whilst this might seem like an obvious one, it’s something that often gets put aside midway through the wedding planning project.
Setting a budget early and sticking to it is a huge help with decision-making as well – it helps to determine whether you really NEED that extra layer on the cake.
It is also always a great ‘go to’ excuse for why you won’t be releasing 100 white doves at the request of your mother-in-law to be!
2. Create a spreadsheet for your guestlist
Create one central document for your wedding guest list. You can store dietary requests & contact details, plus it will become your one-stop-shop for catering requirements, checking who hasn’t yet responded and will be a huge help for when you need to start working on your wedding seating chart.
Google Docs is a great tool to use to create this as you can share it with as many people as you like.
For example, sharing your wedding guest list with your bridesmaids and groomsmen will help them out when it's their time to start planning your respective bachelorette/bachelor parties.
3. ...and one for your vendor list
You’ll thank yourself later by having one central place for all of your vendors' names, email addresses, phone numbers, office hours, arrival times and the like.
Make sure you circulate it to your MC, event planner and family. There’s nothing worse than scrambling to find a phone number at the eleventh hour and being the only person that can access the right information. You also don’t want to be interrupted mid-photo sesh because the band hasn’t turned up and no one can find their number!
4. Take advantage of recommendations and discounts
Chances are, wherever you decide to hold your wedding, they’ll have a long list of trusted partners and recommendations they can provide.
Here at Ellerslie Event Centre we highly recommend suppliers such as Yvonne Cecilia (Stylist) and Selfie Station to take your event to the next level. They know our event venue backwards and forwards and take great pride in their products. Check in with your account manager if you're interested.
5. Share the load
As a bride it’s too easy to take on most, if not all, of the wedding tasks. Speaking from experience, that to-do list just doesn’t seem to get any shorter and the day approaches at a very fast clip.
Earmark early-on tasks appropriate for family members, the bridal party or your event manager and ensure you allow them plenty of time to get it done.
And on the day of, there’s really no need for you to be the one to put out all the place names, approve the final floral or meet the stage guy - your job is to simply enjoy your wedding day – and you’ll be surprised at how willing everyone is to help you out. It’s your day after all!
6. Pause before you unwrap
Our final tip is for the super fun job of unwrapping gifts.
Whilst it’s tempting to dive in and start ripping, make sure you’re with a friend or relative who is armed with a pen and paper.
You might think you’ll remember which cousin gave you that platter/chopping board/dinner plate set, but there’ll always be one that slips through the net, causing much angst when it comes to writing thank you notes.
A list cataloguing your gifts and who bought them for you will be a life saver.
With (in our opinion) Auckland's loveliest venue, Tote on Ascot, right here at Ellerslie, make sure you get in touch with our experienced team to book in a site visit and chat about how we can help make your dream day a reality.
